At the 61st meeting of the European Platform of Regulatory Authorities (EPRA) in Moldova, Branko Bošković, PhD, Chairman of the Council of the Agency for Audiovisual Media Services (AMU) of Montenegro, was elected Vice-Chairperson of the EPRA Executive Board.
EPRA is a network that brings together media regulatory authorities from Europe, with the aim of sharing experiences, monitoring media trends, and strengthening cooperation in the field of media regulation. Participation in its governing bodies carries significant responsibility but also offers the opportunity to influence the strategic development of European regulatory policies.
Bošković’s election is an important recognition not only for the Agency but also for Montenegro, as this marks the first time a representative from the country has been elected to a leadership role in this highly important international network. Furthermore, it can be seen as a symbolic success for the entire Western Balkans region, given that, as a leader in European integration, Montenegro now has the opportunity to contribute to regional visibility and the exchange of know-how in the field of media regulation.
Participation in the EPRA Executive Board not only allows for contributing to the setting of the strategic directions of the network’s activities but also enables active involvement in defining and promoting best European practices. Bošković’s election is the result of many years of engagement in both domestic and international regulatory spheres, as well as his understanding of the broader social context that shapes the media environment, particularly in EU candidate countries – a point he emphasized during the presentation of his candidacy. His presence in EPRA’s leadership enriches the network with insights from a region facing transitional challenges in the application of European standards.
This year’s EPRA meeting focused on two key topics: the protection of children on the internet and social media, with an emphasis on balancing safety and children’s rights, and the identification of best practices as a foundation for quality media regulation. The meeting in Moldova also had a ceremonial aspect, as it marked the 30th anniversary of EPRA.
The election of Montenegro’s representative to the EPRA Executive Board confirms the growing credibility of the national regulatory authority and its contribution to the broader European dialogue on media freedom, media pluralism, media literacy, and the response to digital challenges in contemporary society.
